FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
SEPTEMBER 11, 2024 - 4:25 P.M.
OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss (OSSD) -- Due to deteriorating weather conditions impacting our area into the morning hours, OSSD will remain closed on Thursday, September 12, 2024, for the safety of our students, staff, and their families. We intend to resume normal operations on Friday, September 13, 2024.
We hope everyone remains safe and sound as Hurricane Francine begins to make landfall later this evening. Once weather conditions allow, our crews will work to assess our facilities and prepare them for opening Friday. We will continue to monitor the storm and will communicate any schedule changes via text, phone call, and email.
As a result of the State of Emergency declared by Governor Tate Reeves on Tuesday, OSSD will not be required to make up Wednesday and Thursday. Fall Break will remain unchanged.
We encourage everyone to visit the School Closings & Severe Weather page on our website, where you can read our policies and procedures for severe weather, as well as answers to frequently asked questions.
As always, the safety of our students and staff members is the top priority of OSSD. For more information about how OSSD determines plans for severe weather, visit the severe weather information page on our website by clicking here.
